I haven't forgotten

It's been quite a while since I last blogged about Akay Kalinga. To start, maybe I should mention that we have long fulfilled our "duties" there as interns. We launched our respective projects and we had our open house. We were able to get the attention of some benefactors and I guess the organization was somehow satisfied with our work there. Ever since that day, we never got to visit the center anymore. That doesn't mean we have forgotten about it all together.

A snapshot of the open house.
During the semestral break, Mico, Xeng and I worked on a documentary film with Akay Kalinga in mind. It focuses on street kids and how different people view them. While making the film though, we noticed that the Mindanao Film Festival was accepting entries and we decided to send it in. By some miracle, Sino? was able to get in. We are very thankful for this because it will be a huge help in our advocacy of opening everyone's eyes to the reality of children living in the streets.

Now that we're nearing the Christmas season, I also came up with a little something for the kids. This is how the Secret Santa Project came to life. We will be collecting gifts that are suitable for both girls and boys. Everyone's free to donate anything as long as you feel that it would make a kid's face light up the moment he/she receives it. Gifts can be donated wrapped or unwrapped. Of course, we would really appreciate it if they are already wrapped. Personally, I will be donating a toy and maybe some school supplies. Also, I encourage everyone to enclose a little note or greeting card for the kid who receives your gift. :)

If you're from Zamboanga, I am inviting you to donate to this project. Just think that a simple gift would give so much joy to a child who probably never even received one in his/her entire life. If you're a blogger, please help us get the word out by sharing this poster and maybe by blogging about the project. We will be very thankful for that. ^_^

In case you want to know, I plan to mark each gift with a number. On the day that we visit the center, we're going to ask the kids to pick a random number and they will get the a gift that corresponds to it. Fun, right? I really can't wait.
